Description
A select group of knowledgeable travelers are invited to join Opportunity International as we travel to Gemena, Democratic Republic of Congo, to visit the new bank branch opening to serve the community.
Opportunity International partners with VisionFund in the work of VFDRC (originally Opportunity bank DRC), one of the only formal savings banks with a mission to provide those living in poverty with small business loans and access to their own savings accounts. Now with many successful branches in DRC’s capital city Kinshasa, we are working to launch the first bank branch in Gemena – 600 miles to the north.
On this trip, we will:
-
Witness the early phases of operation of the new bank branch and meet the local bank leadership and staff
-
Learn about how formal financial services are enhancing the development work being done by many NGOs in the Gemena area, including World Vision and the Evangelical Covenant Church
-
Learn how agriculture-focused and technology-based solutions can empower rural, remote women and communities
-
Explore how to better partner as a global community to empower the people of Gemena to sustainably exit poverty
Pricing:
$3,841 per person (single occupancy)
$3,322 per person (double occupancy)

Opportunity protects children. In preparation for your Insight Trip, you will receive an email with a request to complete a consent form and enter identifying information for a basic background check as part of Opportunity's new global Child Protection policy in compliance with international laws that protect vulnerable classes of people. The Verified First process is easy and most importantly secure - just watch for the email that prompts you through a simple process that simply screens for criminal and sex offender records. Should you have questions related to the background check or our Child Protection policy, please feel free to contact Laura Hollis, Vice President, Human Resources lhollis@opportunity.org.
